All of our full time staff are board certified teachers experienced in their grade level and are certified in First Aid and Basic Lifesaving. Veritas Academy also has excellent staff retention and continuity making for a very stable learning environment.
Mrs. Kimberly Rockness-Morning Kindergarten
Kimberly Rockness graduated Magna Cum Laude from Gordon College in 1990 having earned a B.S. in Elementary Education and a B.A. in Psychology. She began her teaching career in Topsfield, MA where she taught fourth grade for four years. Upon moving to Raleigh, NC with her husband, she taught preschool in Cary, NC until the birth of her first child. Mrs. Rockness homeschooled all four of her children until their enrollment at Veritas Academy. Mrs. Rockness greatly enjoys the opportunity to prepare those beginning their elementary education experience for the challenges and rewards of the Classical and Christian education experience.
Mrs. Sue Beckner-Afternoon Kindergarten, Music Grades K-8
Sue Beckner brings a wealth of Christian education experience and musical training to Veritas. She has done extensive teaching and discipleship training and has overseen Sunday School classes from grades Pre-K through adult. Music has also been a lifelong passion for Sue. Violin and piano lessons at the grammar and high school level, voice training at Cape Cod Conservatory, and specializing in voice, theory, and classical piano training at the Arlington Academy of Music had culminated in her being accepted into the Boston Conservatory for voice and piano. Unable to follow this path, Sue continued extended piano and voice training by much private tutoring. she was involved in various choruses and choirs and has served as church pianist for fourteen years.
Mrs. Deborah Carter-Grade 2
Deborah came to Veritas Academy in 2009. She has a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting from Angelo State University and a Master of Arts in Religious Education from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. She has 25 years experience working with children ranging in ages from three to nineteen in various settings: an academic classroom (2 yrs.), a Sunday School room (26 yrs.), a dormitory (3 yrs.), a runaway shelter (1 yr.), summer camp (3 yrs.), and the mission field (2 yrs.). She brings her love for children and the knowledge and experience gained through the years to engage children in the learning process.
Mrs. Carol Harris-Grade 1
Carol Harris graduated from the Eastern Nazarene College with a degree in education. She has completed extensive post graduate study work in New England, Colorado, and California. Carol has also studied child development with Dr. Ilg of the Gessel Institute. Her 45 years of early childhood education experience has been in public schools, private schools, and churches-preschool through grade six.
Mrs. Phoebe Hoffrage-Grades 3 and 4, Grammar for Grades 3-6
Phoebe Hoffrage holds a B.S. in Education from Taylor University. She taught in public school for four years, at the Imago School (a Classical and Christian School) for 11 years, and at Veritas Academy since its start in 1998. Phoebe is recognized for her outstanding skills and has been named to “Who’s Who in America’s Teachers”.
Mr. Dave Thomas-Grades 5 and 6, Science for Grades 3-8, Physical Education for Grades 5-8, Art for Grades 5-8
Dave Thomas graduated from the University of Massachusetts with a B.S. in Forestry and received his teaching certification from Bridgewater State College. He was a Communications Training Instructor with the United States Coast Guard from 1982-1985. Dave has been teaching at Veritas Academy since 1999.
Mr. Thomas Hoffrage- Headmaster, Grades 7-8, Latin for Grades 5-8, Physical Education for Grades 5-8, Art for Grades 5-8.
Thomas Hoffrage received his B.S. from Taylor University, his M.Ed. from Fitchburg State College and has 30+ Graduate Credit Hours from the University of Massachusetts, Lowell. He taught in public schools for 25 years and in private school for 13 years. He has been Headmaster and teacher at Veritas Academy since the school’s inception. Thomas received the Excellence in Education Award for the years 1987/88 from the United States Department of Education and was nominated as Exemplary Teacher in 1987/88 and 1988/89. He is also recognized by “Who’s Who in America’s Teachers”.
